Breakin Escape Rooms The War on Horizon Alpha

Story

The galaxy is in peril, trapped under the cyborg fist of the feared Alpha One faction. The imperial regime rules from the space-fortress codenamed Horizon Alpha, a terrifying superweapon with an impenetrable security system. You are a plucky band of rebels - the best in the parsec - chosen to infiltrate the Horizon Alpha. In 60 minutes a massive rebel fleet will arrive through hyperspace and fire on the base, but you must manually deactivate the shields if this daring assault is to work.Grab your laser-swords. Arm your blasters. Complete the mission and escape before the Horizon Alpha is reduced to atoms. Good luck, you're our only hope!

Before the escape

This was our third escape room at Breakin’ Escapes, we had a really good experience completing The Flying Dutchman and enjoyed the originality of the puzzles, although, with War on Alpha Horizon, we didn’t enjoy the escape room, which caused us not to rush back to the venue. Our friends asked us if we wanted to go back to the venue and we thought why not, we don’t often get to complete escape rooms with other couples so regardless it would be a fun day out.

Our game master gave us a recap of how the locks worked and let us know it was a linear escape room. If you need a clue you can use the walkie-talkie to speak to your game master and they will give you a code to input into the tablet on the wall.

The great escape

Our game master gave us the brief enthusiastically while in the dark of the escape room. I could see the blood-stained bathtub and the hanging limbs in my peripheral. I’m not sure it if was intentional but the room was cold, which did add to the atmosphere. Once the timer started the bright light came on, unveiling the blood-stained escape room.

We needed to ask for a couple of clues, one was a complete human error from us because we had figured out quickly what we needed to do but were not executing it correctly. The other was a maths puzzle, nothing too complex but we were having a mental block on figuring out what we needed to do so it slowed us down.

We got out with 25 minutes to spare, there could have been more puzzles added to the room as I don’t feel we were particularly flying through the room. This room can comfortably be completed as a couple and I would say no more than 4 people as otherwise a lot of the team will be standing around with nothing to do. It is a well-maintained room, nothing in the room was broken or worn.

The verdict

This is a great game for beginners and considering I am big scardey cat, I wouldn’t class this room as scary which is probably what it was missing. Some of the props which aren’t part of the puzzles could be upgraded to make them more realistic. Also, some additional puzzles would be welcomed. There weren’t any big leaps of logic, some of the puzzles were separated from the theme but we still enjoyed doing them. After this room, we will be going back to complete the other rooms.
